Advantages of Pine Sawn Veneer

Sawn veneer, or lamella, is a type of lumber obtained by sawing solid wood on specialized equipment. The thickness of lamella typically ranges from 2 to 10 mm / 0.078-0.39″. Sawn veneer retains the grain, color, and texture of the wood.

The material’s advantages include:

  1. Strength and Durability. Due to its sufficient thickness, lamella can withstand mechanical stress and is suitable for various types of finishes.
  2. Natural Aesthetics. Sawn veneer preserves the natural beauty of the solid wood.
  3. Eco-Friendliness. Thin sheets of wood are environmentally safe. Lumber is an efficient way to utilize industrial timber.
  4. Wide Range of Applications. Sawn veneer is used for creating various millwork products, from furniture fronts and parquet flooring to wall panels and doors.
  5. Stability. The material is made from kiln-dried solid wood. The lamellas maintain a stable shape and are suitable for use in residential and public spaces.
  6. Ease of Processing. Sawn veneer is easy to work with. The sheets can be cut, glued, polished, sanded, painted, stained, and lacquered.

Grade Rustic Pine Sawn Veneer

Rustic-grade sawn veneer has the most natural characteristics. The cost of this material is significantly lower than grades A and B.

Characteristics of rustic-grade sawn veneer:

  • Various types of knots are allowed: live knots, loose knots, black knots, and knots with cracks.
  • The surface may have minor cracks and resin pockets.
  • Noticeable color variations are present.
  • Despite its visual imperfections, the material remains strong.

Decorative material with pronounced wood characteristics is chosen for rustic, loft, chalet, eco, Scandi, and country-style projects.

Technology for Manufacturing Sawn Pine Lamella

The production of sawn veneer is a technological process that preserves the wood’s texture. The lumber is manufactured in the following stages:

  1. Board Selection. Boards of the highest or first grade are selected for lamella production.
  2. Wood Drying. The selected boards are dried in special kilns. Kiln drying allows for a solid wood with a stable woodworking moisture content of 8-10%. Drying according to the specified technology relieves internal wood stress and prevents lumber deformation.
  3. Stock Calibration. The next step is calibrating the boards. The material is sized to fit the saw cassette.
  4. Sawing. After jointing, the boards are loaded into a Wintersteiger machine and cut into sheets of the required thickness. Modern equipment ensures maximum cutting accuracy, minimizing raw material waste.
  5. Sorting. The resulting lumber is checked for size and quality. After sorting by grade, the lamellas are stacked into packs.

Sawn veneer is a premium cladding material whose production is focused on quality and preserving the properties of the wood.

Uses of Sawn Pine Lamella

Sawn veneer is a strong, durable, and easy-to-work-with type of lumber. Veneer sheets are used to create products such as:

  • Countertops. Lamella is used for finishing countertops for desks and dining tables, bar tops, kitchen work surfaces, and store counters.
  • Furniture Fronts. Cladding with lamellas gives furniture a solid appearance. It’s an ideal choice for cabinets, dressers, and chests of drawers. The material is resistant to temperature and humidity fluctuations and is easily stained and lacquered.
  • Stair Treads for Indoor Stairs. Thanks to its high strength and wear resistance, sawn veneer is a popular material for stair cladding. The thickness of 2-10 mm is sufficient to withstand operational loads in townhouses, country homes, hotels, and restaurants.
  • Doors and Interior Partitions. Interior doors finished with sawn veneer are chosen for both residential and commercial premises. Lamellas are used to decorate partitions, dividers, and screens. Non-structural constructions help zone a space and often play a significant role in the interior design of studio apartments, offices, and exhibition halls.
  • Wall Panels. Wood lamellas are used to create wall panels with unique patterns. Veneer sheets can be combined in various ways to achieve a uniform surface or a highly decorative piece with different textures.
  • Household and Decorative Items. Craftsmen use sawn veneer to make various small household items: boxes, organizers, lamps, mirror frames, figurines, napkin holders, glasses stands, key holders, clocks, and more.

Wood lamella is the foundation for various millwork products. High-quality cladding material makes it possible to realize the most complex design ideas. Sawn veneer is used where not only the beauty of the wood is needed, but also durability and resistance to mechanical stress.

Pine Wood: Features

Pine (Pinus) is one of the most widespread and important coniferous species in the world. This accessible and easy-to-work-with industrial timber is used in construction, furniture production, interior finishing, and more. Pine is common throughout Europe and Asia. The species adapts to various climatic conditions and soils.

Technical Specifications

  • The average density of dry pine is approximately 500-520 kg/m³, making it a lightweight species.
  • Janka hardness is 540 lbf, and Brinell hardness is 2.5.
  • Pine has moderate toughness and elasticity.

Texture, Grain, Color

  • Pine fibers are typically straight, with a pronounced texture. Clear annual rings form a characteristic grain pattern.
  • The sapwood is wide and has a light yellow or whitish shade. The heartwood color varies from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown. The wood darkens when exposed to light and air.
  • A characteristic feature of pine solid wood is the presence of resin ducts, which may look like small dark spots or lines on the surface. The resin gives the wood a pleasant coniferous aroma and increases its resistance to moisture and pests.

Processing Features

  • Pine wood is dried using a special technology to prevent resin from leaking to the surface.
  • This soft solid wood is easily processed with hand and machine tools. The material is easy to saw, plane, drill, and cut.
  • Pine accepts various finishes well, from lacquers, stains, and paints to oils and waxes. Due to the uneven density of early and late wood, stains may absorb unevenly. It is recommended to use a primer or filler.
