Types of Wood Lattice

To produce wood lattice, sanded slats are used, which are joined in an overlapping, “half-lap,” or “dado” joint. A certified PVA-based wood glue is used to bond the elements.

The standard thickness of the slats is 2-2.5 mm, and the dimensions are 1200x620x5 mm (47.24″x23.6″). We accept orders for the production of custom-sized lattice (minimum batch of 1,000 units). The edges of the slats can be rounded (R) or flat (P). The opening shape can be diamond or square.

On request, material can be made from various species: maple, cherry, beech, walnut, hornbeam, etc. We have products made from alder, ash, and oak in stock. These are the most popular varieties, combining an aesthetic appearance, simple processing, and good performance characteristics. Additionally, we offer profiles: an H-profile for joining panels and a U-profile for framing the finished product. Let’s look at our in-stock selection in more detail.

Oak Wood Lattice

Oak wood is considered one of the most valuable and popular materials in the global carpentry market. Thanks to its exceptional characteristics, oak is the quality benchmark in the production of furniture, flooring, doors, windows, and other products. Carpenters and designers value the species for its balanced combination of strength, durability, and decorative qualities.

Solid oak has a dense and coarse texture with distinct annual rings. The fibers are usually straight. Patterns vary by type of cut. A radial cut produces a classic “fleck” pattern, while a tangential cut results in a wavy, “flame-like” pattern. The color of the heartwood ranges from light brown to a grayish-brown hue. The sapwood is usually light, almost white.

The technical characteristics of the species are as follows:

  • density in a dry state (at 12% moisture) ranges from 600 to 900 kg/m³, but is typically around 700-750 kg/m³;
  • hardness on the Brinell scale is 3.7-3.9, and on the Janka scale — 1290 lbf. The species is resistant to impacts, dents, and abrasion;
  • solid oak has high toughness, meaning the ability to absorb impact energy without fracturing. This property prevents the material from cracking under significant loads;
  • due to its high tannin content, oak is resistant to rot, mold, and insects. Thanks to its closed pores, the wood can be used in high humidity rooms with proper finishing.

Working with oak requires certain skills and high-quality tools. The wood mills, sands, and polishes excellently, allowing for the creation of perfectly smooth surfaces. Oak glues well and readily accepts stains, varnishes, oils, and waxes. Solid wood does not bend well, so special steam treatment is required to create curved shapes.

Oak wood is a reliable, durable, and visually appealing material. Products made from this species always add a sense of substance and classic charm to an interior and remain relevant for decades.

Alder Wood Lattice

Alder is one of the most popular hardwoods. Carpenters choose this soft wood for its easy workability and uniform color. Solid alder can be easily stained, making it an excellent material for imitating more expensive woods like cherry, walnut, or mahogany.

Freshly cut alder has a light color, but upon exposure to air, it quickly acquires a characteristic light pink or yellowish-red hue. Over time, the color becomes richer, transitioning into brownish-red tones. The wood’s texture is uniform, with fine, straight fibers. The grain pattern is subtle.

Technical characteristics of alder:

  • density in a dry state (at 12% moisture) is about 530 kg/m³;
  • hardness on the Brinell scale is 2.5-2.8 units, and on the Janka scale — 590 lbf;
  • the wood has good toughness, making it resistant to splitting;
  • a unique feature of alder is its relatively high water resistance. With proper treatment, the wood does not swell in high-humidity environments.

Working with alder is not difficult. The solid wood cuts, planes, mills, and glues well, and is suitable for making intricately shaped parts. Thanks to its uniform texture, the wood accepts stains, varnishes, and paints.

Ash Wood Lattice

Ash wood is one of the most valuable hardwoods. Due to its combination of flexibility, hardness, and durability, solid ash is optimally suited for the production of furniture, sports equipment, and tools.

Ash sapwood has a creamy-white or yellowish-white color. The heartwood can be light brown. The solid wood is distinguished by a prominent texture. Wide annual rings are clearly visible on the cut. Ash fibers are usually straight, but specimens with wavy grain are often found. Ash is a hard and dense species.

The average density in a dry state (at 12% moisture) is 710 kg/m³.

Hardness on the Brinell scale is 4.0-4.1, and on the Janka scale — approximately 1320 lbf.

A special feature of ash is its exceptional toughness and elasticity. The wood can withstand significant dynamic loads, making it an optimal material for sports equipment and tool handles.

Solid ash glues, saws, planes, mills, and sands well. The wood bends after steam treatment, allowing for the creation of elements with smooth curves. The surface can be stained, varnished, or coated with waxes and lacquers.

What is made from wood lattice?

Decorative wood lattice is a versatile material that allows for the creation of unique interior and landscape design elements. The panel, made of slats joined in a specific sequence, fits into interiors of various styles and can solve both decorative and practical tasks. What do craftsmen make from this material?

  1. Framed Furniture Fronts. This is one of the most popular applications. Lattice is integrated into the doors of cabinets, dressers, and nightstands, adding visual lightness to the furniture and ensuring air circulation.
  2. Organizers and Bins. Stylish organizers and storage bins are created from lattice. These designs provide visual access to items (stationery, jewelry, cosmetics, clothing, etc.).
  3. Room Partitions and Screens. Wood lattice is suitable for zoning spaces. The panels separate areas while maintaining a feeling of openness. Such partitions allow light to pass through and do not weigh down the interior, making them ideal for studio apartments, offices, and waiting rooms.
  4. Radiator Screens. This is a practical and aesthetic solution for concealing heating radiators. A screen made of decorative lattice effectively hides radiators while ensuring the free circulation of warm air.
  5. Screens for Ventilation Shaft Openings. Lattice is often used as decorative covers for vents. This lightweight and easy-to-install material provides the necessary air exchange. Wood products look much more attractive than plastic grilles.
  6. Wall and Ceiling Decor. Lattice can be used to decorate accent walls or ceilings, creating a unique pattern. Such decor adds texture, rhythm, and dimension to an interior.
  7. Photo Booth Backdrops. Decorative lattice serves as an excellent base for photo booths. The surface can be painted, stained, or varnished. The openings allow for attaching string lights, additional lighting, posters, and other elements for creative installations.
  8. Gazebo Elements. Sometimes, wood lattice is used in the construction of gazebos. When using panels of natural material for exterior finishing, it is important to coat the products with special protective agents.
  9. Plant Support. After being treated with anti-rot agents, the wood lattice becomes a practical support for roses, grapes, and other climbing plants. Such frames are used to create flower arches and living fences.

Wood lattice is a multifunctional material that opens up wide possibilities for creativity. The panels allow the creation of unique products for both interior and exterior finishing.
