Characteristics of Grade 1 (A/B) Edge-Glued Ash Panels

In the context of finger-jointed ash edge-glued panels, Grade 1 is determined by the visual characteristics of the surfaces, not by strength parameters. All panels are manufactured using the same technology and have high strength.

So, what is the appearance of Grade 1 (A/B) finger-jointed panels?

  • The face and reverse sides are clean, without visible wood defects, scratches, dents, cracks, chips, or tool marks.
  • White knots are permissible (1-2 per panel). Loose or black knots are not allowed.
  • Uniformity of color and texture. The lamellas are matched as carefully as possible for color and pattern. There are no sharp tonal variations between adjacent segments.
  • Absence of sapwood (the lighter, less dense part of the wood adjacent to the bark).
  • Inconspicuous glue lines. There is no glue, gaps, or delamination on the surface.

Production Technology of Finger-Jointed Edge-Glued Ash Panels

  1. Wood Drying: The lamellas are made from kiln-dried boards with a moisture content of 8-10%, which ensures the material’s stability.
  2. Sawing Lamellas: The wood is sawn into strips of a specific thickness and width. Modern machinery guarantees the precise dimensions of each segment.
  3. Sorting: The finished lamellas are sorted by quality and size; strips with defects are removed.
  4. Milling the Micro-Finger Joint: A special serrated joint—the micro-finger joint—is formed on the ends of the lamellas to ensure the maximum bonding area.
  5. Joining Segments: The lamellas are glued together lengthwise and widthwise under a press using environmentally friendly adhesives that meet strength and safety standards.
  6. Calibrating and Sanding: The finished panel is calibrated to the required dimensions and sanded to prepare the surface for further finishing.

Advantages of Edge-Glued Ash Panels Over Solid Wood

  • Stability: The wooden lamellas are made from boards dried to an optimal moisture level (8-10%). Kiln drying the wood eliminates internal stresses, which cause deformation in solid wood. Thus, the finger-jointed panel is not prone to warping or cracking due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature.
  • Structural Uniformity: The finger-jointing process allows for the creation of a uniform, defect-free surface.
  • Wear Resistance: The load is evenly distributed across the material’s surface. The structure of multi-directional segments “dissipates” point stresses and prevents pressure concentration in one place. As a result, the panel maintains its integrity even under significant loads.
  • Optimal Use of Raw Materials: The finger-jointing technology allows for the efficient use of wood, minimizing waste and making production more efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • Aesthetics: The wooden lamellas that make up the panel retain the texture of the wood. The finger-jointing process creates a parquet-like pattern that can be an interesting design element.

Applications of Edge-Glued Ash Panels

This durable and stable material is used to create products such as:

  • Tabletops for desks, kitchen work areas, and bar counters;
  • Treads for interior stairs;
  • Furniture fronts: doors for cabinets, dressers, chests, and tall units;
  • Bed headboards;
  • Seats for bar stools, benches, and stools;
  • Windowsills in homes and offices;
  • Decorative wall panels.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How do we guarantee product quality?

We manufacture our edge-glued panels in strict compliance with technology. When an order is placed, we sign a contract with specified standards.

Why should you order edge-glued panels from us?

We have been in business since 1996 and have partners in over 30 European countries. We supply wood materials to manufacturers of various products, from furniture factories to craft workshops.

How quickly can an order be received?

The delivery time depends on the volume of the order and the destination.

Do we provide product samples?

We can add a consolidated pallet with materials that interest the client to an order. The price of the consolidated pallet depends on the type of product.

What is the minimum order quantity?

The minimum order volume is 1 pallet.

Do we offer cutting or additional processing services?

Currently, we do not provide cutting or additional processing services. We supply finished edge-glued panels of various thicknesses, grades, and formats.

Quality Control

From the moment an order is received, we provide full production oversight for every batch in accordance with the Client’s individual specifications.

Quality control is carried out in three stages:

Raw material selection and inspection. We assess the quality of the wood, its grade, grain structure, and compliance with technical requirements.

First production batch inspection. Once production begins, we inspect the first units to ensure proper process execution and consistent parameters.

Final inspection during packaging. Before shipment, we check moisture content, dimensions, surface finish quality, and overall compliance with the approved specification.

This approach ensures consistent quality for every batch and full transparency throughout the entire production process.

Packaging and Transportation

Truck and rail transport

Packaging. Products are palletized on kiln-dried lumber pallets to ensure stability, ventilation, and preservation of the geometry and quality of wood materials.

Protective wrapping. Materials are sealed off from the external environment. Pallets are wrapped in multi-layer moisture-resistant shrink film. The film is tightly secured around the cargo, creating an airtight barrier and additional cushioning during truck and rail transport.

Board sheathing. The top and sides of the cargo are additionally protected with MDF, fiberboard, or plywood sheets. This sheathing stabilizes the batch and prevents crushing, scratching, and warping during loading and unloading.

Strapping. Pallets are secured with strapping bands to prevent product shifting during transit.

Ocean freight (container shipping)

Reinforced packaging. In compliance with international standards, we use heat-protected and moisture-resistant packaging with reinforced fasteners for ocean container shipments.

In-container securing. Specialized fasteners, strapping, and dunnage bags are used to prevent cargo movement caused by vessel rolling.

Additional product protection. When necessary, desiccants, interleaving pads, and multi-layer films are applied.

ISPM 15–certified wooden packaging materials that meet international trade requirements.

Shipping Terms and Logistics

Your order is shipped according to the selected delivery terms under Incoterms 2020 rules. The actual delivery timeline is determined by the contract terms and agreed upon with the Client at the order placement stage.

We work exclusively with vetted logistics partners who guarantee reliable delivery schedules, proper documentation, and safe cargo handling at every stage of the route.

International Delivery and Destination Services

Delivery to the United States or other countries is carried out in accordance with the agreed Incoterms 2020 terms. Upon cargo arrival, all subsequent operations — customs clearance, domestic logistics, and delivery to the Client’s warehouse — are handled according to the contract terms and the chosen cooperation model.

If needed, we can engage trusted local logistics partners in the U.S. to ensure fast and convenient delivery.

Payments are made in accordance with the terms specified in the signed contract.
An advance payment is required after the order is confirmed and the agreement is executed. All further payment stages are defined individually based on the contract terms, product specifications, and applicable INCOTERMS 2020.

We follow transparent financial practices and comply with international trade standards. All payment conditions are clearly outlined in the agreement.
