Advantages of Sawn Acacia Veneer

Sawn veneer, or lamella, is lumber obtained by sawing a solid piece of wood with specialized equipment. The thickness of a lamella typically ranges from 2 to 10 mm / 0.078-0.39″. Sawn veneer preserves the pattern, color, and texture of the wood.

The advantages of this material include:

  1. Durability and Longevity. Thanks to its sufficient thickness, lamella can withstand mechanical stress and is suitable for various types of finishing.
  2. Natural Aesthetics. Sawn veneer maintains the natural beauty of solid wood.
  3. Eco-friendliness. These thin sheets of wood are environmentally safe. Lumber is an efficient way to use industrial timber.
  4. Wide Application. Sawn veneer is used to create a variety of millwork, from furniture fronts and parquet flooring to wall panels and doors.
  5. Stability. The material is made from kiln-dried solid wood. The lamellas maintain a stable shape and are suitable for use in residential and public spaces.
  6. Ease of Processing. Sawn veneer is easy to work with. Sheets can be cut, glued, polished, sanded, painted, stained, and varnished.

Grade Rustic Sawn Acacia Veneer

Rustic grade sawn veneer has the most natural features. The material’s cost is significantly lower than Grades A and B.

Characteristics of Rustic grade sawn veneer:

  • Knots of various types are acceptable: intergrown, fallen, black, with cracks.
  • The surface may have minor cracks and resin pockets.
  • There are noticeable color variations.
  • Despite its visual imperfections, the material remains strong.

Decorative material with prominent wood characteristics is chosen for projects in the rustic, loft, chalet, eco, scandi, and country styles.

Technology for Manufacturing Sawn Acacia Lamella

Sawn veneer production is a technological process that preserves the wood’s texture. The manufacturing of this lumber consists of the following stages:

  1. Board Selection. Only top-grade or first-grade boards are chosen for lamella production.
  2. Wood Drying. The selected boards are dried in special kilns. Kiln drying produces solid wood with a stable moisture content of 8-10% for woodworking. Drying with strict adherence to technology relieves internal wood stress and prevents lumber deformation.
  3. Blank Calibration. The next step is calibrating the boards. The material is adjusted to the size of the saw cassette.
  4. Sawing. After jointing, the boards are loaded into a Wintersteiger machine and cut into sheets of the desired thickness. Modern equipment ensures maximum cutting precision, minimizing raw material waste.
  5. Sorting. The resulting lumber is checked for compliance with size and quality standards. After sorting by grade, the lamellas are stacked in bundles.

Sawn veneer is a premium surfacing material, with production focused on quality and preserving the properties of the wood.

Using Sawn Acacia Lamella

Sawn veneer is a strong, durable, and easy-to-work-with lumber. Veneer sheets are used to create products such as:

  • Engineered Hardwood Flooring. Sawn veneer is used for the top layer of engineered hardwood. The wood sheets make the multi-layered flooring aesthetically pleasing.
  • Countertops. Lamella is used for surfacing writing and dining tables, bar counters, kitchen work surfaces, and retail counters.
  • Furniture Fronts. Lamella surfacing gives furniture a solid look. It is an ideal choice for cabinets, chests, tall cabinets, and dressers. The material is resistant to temperature and humidity fluctuations and is easily stained and varnished.
  • Stair Treads. Due to its high strength and wear resistance, sawn veneer is a popular material for surfacing stairs. A thickness of 2-10 mm is sufficient to withstand operational loads in townhouses, country homes, hotels, and restaurants.
  • Doors and Interior Partitions. Interior doors surfaced with sawn veneer are chosen for both residential and commercial spaces. Lamellas are used to decorate partitions, dividers, and screens. Non-structural constructions help zone a space and often play a significant role in the interior design of studio apartments, offices, and exhibition halls.
  • Wall Panels. Wooden lamellas are used to create wall panels with a unique pattern. Veneer sheets can be combined in various ways to achieve a uniform surface or a highly decorative panel with different textures.
  • Household and Decorative Items. Craftsmen use sawn veneer to make a variety of small household items: boxes, organizers, lamps, mirror frames, figurines, napkin holders, eyeglass stands, key holders, clocks, and more.

Wooden lamella is the foundation for various millwork products. High-quality surfacing material makes it possible to realize the most complex design ideas. Sawn veneer is used where not only the beauty of the wood is needed, but also durability and resistance to mechanical stress.

Acacia Wood: Key Characteristics

Acacia (Acacia) is one of the strongest and densest species that grows in temperate climates. Its exceptional hardness, durability, and resistance to decay make the wood an optimal material for outdoor work, flooring, furniture, and decorative items.

Technical Characteristics

  • The average density of dry wood is 800 kg/m³.
  • Janka hardness is 19,400 lbf, Brinell is 7.1. These indicators show significant wood hardness. Acacia is harder than oak and beech, and resistant to wear, impacts, and scratches.
  • Acacia has high toughness, which makes it resistant to splitting.

Texture, Grain, Color

  • Acacia grains are usually straight, but sometimes trunks with wavy grains are found. The wood has a pronounced texture with clearly visible annual rings.
  • The narrow sapwood is colored in pale yellow or creamy shades. The heartwood palette ranges from light brown to golden-brown, sometimes with olive or greenish inclusions.
  • Acacia has distinct pores, similar to those of oak.

Processing Features

  • After kiln drying, the wood becomes stable.
  • Dense and hard solid wood can be difficult to process. Craftsmen use sharp and strong tools when working with acacia. The species can be sanded, and after polishing, the surface becomes shiny.
  • Acacia accepts varnishes and oils well, which highlight its color.
  • Due to its resistance to decay, acacia is suitable for outdoor work: making decks, garden furniture, and fences. Acacia solid wood is also an excellent choice for flooring, furniture, and turned items.
